Troublesome

Troublesome I and II, jesmonite and plastic bag, 60x20x20cm

Troublesome 1 and 2 records the innumerable folds of plastic shopping bags, cast in jesmonite, inspired by the Naive realisation that when cast the plastic bag becomes inseparably entangled within the material. Troublesome surfaces are littered with the remnants of torn plastic bags that lie forever entangled within their folded surface. A reflection of our cornucopian world. A world whose seas are now littered with plastic waste, forming vast island-like swirling vortices. Islands that ceaselessly expand and whose eddies prevent the plastic from escaping until it has eroded into microparticles that threaten to permeate all living bodies.
